When it comes to fashion, never underestimate the importance of accessories, as shoes, jewellery and bags have been known to make or break an outfit.

Here are the latest trends for bags this year to help bring your stylish outfit to life.

1) Hexella handbags

Ladies who know their handbags, know Warp’s Hexella handbags. These have been designed by Hirra Babar, from Lahore, who created one of the most stylish accessories of the year.

These contemporary geometric designs have featured at Paris Fashion Week three times already, and have been part of Mipel in Milan in 2019.

Speaking to Forbes, 33-year-old Babar said: “Good design is something that evokes the five senses … the shape, for instance, is so important, it should pique a potential buyer’s interest. A handbag needs to have its own character.”

2) Fluorescent colours

Whether you get your bags off the high street or from designer stores, this year it’s all about bright colours, according to Harper’s Bazaar.

Libby Page, senior market editor at Net-a-Porter, told the publication: “We’re all excited by the bright and bold colours of SS22, which are present across all categories including bags.

In fact, sales of green bags have skyrocketed by 151 per cent, thanks to Bottega Veneta featuring bold shades on the catwalk lately.

3) Vintage fashion

Whether it’s a 1970s tassel bag or a 1950s small box bags, vintage purses never go out of fashion – and 2022 is no different. This year, with the focus on sustainability, it is the perfect time to consider leather bag restoration of the vintage pieces in your wardrobe to give them a new lease of life.

Page said the trend is currently recreating old-fashioned accessories, such as by using modern colours or adding contemporary features that the 21st lady can’t live without.

She used the example of Gucci’s Jackie 1961 bag, which was inspired by Jackie O’Nassis’ iconic style in the ‘60s, updated with a “contemporary edge in an array of sizes, colours and materials”.

4) Bucket bags

We’ve seen the tote, clutch, crossbody, shoulder, hobo, messenger and duffle bag, but now is the time for the bucket bag.

This year is all about these long, spacious accessories, which feature a drawstring fastening, wide-bottom base, and a long, crossbody strap.

Not only are they immensely practical, holding all your bits and bobs and easily being carried over the shoulder, they are the pinnacle of style at the moment.

Love To Know is a big fan of the bucket bag, so-called because of its unique shape, telling readers: “Whether you prefer the sturdy leather or cute embroidered versions, the bucket bag is a larger bag that tends to have plenty of storage for all your possessions, making it functional as well as fashionable.”

5) Leather briefcase

Now the working-from-home order has been lifted, most of us are back in the office, which means time for a new workbag. Why not invest in a stylish briefcase with a feminine touch for your return?

These sturdy designs feature spacious interiors, perfect for fitting in laptops and tablets, plenty of pockets, a short shoulder strap and a sophisticated structure.
